Placements
1 insight on placements. Each opens with the direct answer.
A placement is an article about your brand, or including your brand, that a publication publishes and lets search engines index. Placements are how the press coverage pillar of digital authority is built.
Why do placements matter for AI answers?
AI engines write answers from sources they retrieve. If the publications they retrieve for your buyer question never mention you, the engine has little reason to name you. A placement in one of those publications puts your brand, your category and your description into the material the engine reads.
The detail is in what a DA 90+ placement actually does for AI visibility.
What counts as a real placement?
- The article is on the publication's own domain.
- It is indexed, not blocked from search engines.
- It names your brand with the same category label and description you use everywhere else.
- It is relevant to the question your buyer asks.
Sponsored posts that are hidden from indexing, and syndicated copies on unrelated sites, do little.
How do you choose which ones?
By the question, not by audience size. Ask your target question on several engines, note the sources they cite, and list the ones you are missing from. That list is the media plan. A smaller publication that engines cite for your category is worth more than a famous one they never retrieve for it.
How many do you need?
Enough to appear in roughly half the cited sources for each target question. For most questions that is a handful, and some overlap between questions.
