What a DA 90+ placement actually does for AI visibility

High-authority placements are the fastest way to move both the press and AI pillars of digital authority. Here is what they change, what they do not, and how to pick the right publication.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
  1. A placement puts your brand inside the set of sources an AI engine reads before it answers. That is what earns a mention.
  2. Pick publications by whether the engine cites them for your question first, DA and audience last.
  3. A placement does not fix a weak entity and does not last forever; coverage decays over 12 to 18 months.
  4. Buy the exact placement that closes a gap, re-run the report after six weeks, repeat quarterly.

Every Digital Authority Report ends the same way: a list of gaps and, next to each one, the placement that closes it. The press and AI pillars are 60% of the score and both are moved by the same thing, so it is worth being precise about what a placement does.

What a placement changes

A placement is a real article in a real publication: written to the publication's standard, published on its domain, indexed by search engines, and readable by AI crawlers. When it is in the right publication, four things happen.

  1. You enter the retrieval set. AI engines answer a question by reading a short list of trusted pages. If the publication is one the engine cites for your question, your brand is now in the material the answer is built from.
  2. Your description gets repeated by a trusted voice. The engine now has an independent source describing you the way you describe yourself. Consistency across sources is what moves a brand from "mentioned" to "named first".
  3. The press pillar moves. The report checks the 20 sources AI engines cite in your category. Each new one you appear in is a direct, countable gain.
  4. Search presence improves as a side effect. A high-authority article about you tends to rank for your brand name and often for the question itself, which tightens your page-one control.

What it does not change

  • It does not fix a weak entity. If your schema, Wikidata and LinkedIn disagree, the engine may fail to connect the coverage to you. Fix the entity first (checklist).
  • It does not help if the publication is never cited for your question. Audience size and Domain Authority are proxies. The thing that matters is whether the engine retrieves that domain when a buyer asks your question.
  • It does not last forever. Engines favour recent sources. Coverage decays over 12 to 18 months and has to be refreshed.

How to pick the publication

Rank candidate publications by three things, in this order:

PriorityCheckWhy
1Is it in the cited sources for your target question? This is the only thing that directly earns a mention.
2Does it appear for more than one of your questions? One placement, two pillars, several questions.
3DA and audienceA tie-breaker between two publications that pass the first two checks.

A DA 92 national business outlet that the engines never cite for "payroll software for restaurants" is worth less, for that question, than a DA 70 restaurant-industry trade title that appears in every answer. The report does this ranking for you: every gap in the sources table is tagged "Placement available" when the marketplace has that exact publication.

What the marketplace looks like

Ethos Engine lists more than 1,600 publications, around 80 of them DA 90+, with turnaround as fast as one day. Each listing shows the price, whether the publication is cited for your questions, and whether we write or you supply. International editions of the major mastheads are available for most titles.

You buy the exact placement that closes a gap. You do not buy a package.

Sequence that works

  1. Run the report. Note the sources you are missing from for each target question.
  2. Fix the entity checks the same week.
  3. Buy two or three placements that cover the most questions, using your one standard description.
  4. Re-run the report after six weeks. Expect press coverage up, AI visibility up on at least one engine, and the brand named on questions it was absent from.
  5. Repeat quarterly to keep coverage current.

The placement is not the goal. Being the answer is the goal. The placement is simply the fastest way there.

Questions

What does DA 90+ mean?

Domain Authority is a third-party score from 1 to 100 that estimates a site's ranking strength from its link profile. Above 90 is the tier of national newspapers, major business media and the largest tech outlets. It is a useful shortlist filter, not a guarantee the engine cites that site for your question.

Are international editions worth it?

Often, yes, if the edition is indexed and the engine cites it. Some regional editions of well-known mastheads share the brand's trust at a fraction of the price. Check whether the edition appears in the citations for your question before buying.

Will one placement change my score?

It can. One article in a source that is cited for two of your three target questions typically moves press coverage by several points and can flip an "not named" to "named" on at least one engine. Expect the change within two to six weeks.

Do you write the article?

You can. The marketplace lets you supply the content or have Ethos Engine write it to the publication's editorial standards, using your standard positioning so the coverage is consistent.
