Instagram now sells links on Reels. Which of your Reels should get one?
Meta One Advanced gives four clickable Reel links a month. The link is fixed at publish, so here is how to pick the Reels and what to do with the rest.
- Advanced cuts the price of a Reel link by about 45% against Meta Verified Plus, but four links still cover only a few Reels a month.
- The link is fixed at publish, so choose by forecast. Test the concept first, then publish a fresh linked cut.
- Comment-to-DM replies to people who do not follow you land in Requests, which matters most on Reels that travel.
- Nobody publishes tap rates for Reel links. Tag every route with UTMs and decide on your own numbers after a month.
On 15 September 2026 Meta launched Meta One, a set of paid plans across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Meta AI. For brands, one line in the Advanced plan matters more than the rest: links in organic posts and Reels. A tappable link on an organic Reel used to need a pricier Meta Verified business plan. Now it comes in a broader bundle at a lower price per link.
The coverage so far explains how to add the link and what it costs. It skips the monthly decision. You get a handful of links, you spend each one at publish, and nobody has published how often people tap them. This piece covers which Reels should get a link and what the rest should do instead.
What does a Meta One link actually buy?
Meta's announcement lists links under Advanced, from $49.99 a month. It gives no link counts. Social Media Today reported the allowances at launch, and guides that read Meta's help pages, Blotato and ReelDrop among them, report the same numbers.
| Plan | US price from | Instagram post links a month | Instagram Reel links a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $14.99 | None | None |
| Advanced | $49.99 | 4 | 4 |
| Expert | $149 | 8 | 8 |
| Max | $499 | 12 | 12 |
Blotato quotes the help article at $149.99 and $499.99 for the top two plans, against "from $149" and "from $499" in Meta's newsroom post. Prices also vary by country. Khaleej Times listed Advanced in the UAE from Dh119.
The rules matter more than the price. Per Blotato's reading of Meta's help pages:
- The link goes in through an Add link option in the composer. A URL typed into the caption stays plain text.
- Post and Reel allowances are separate.
- A link cannot be edited after publishing.
- Unused links do not roll over.
- Links to Meta's own apps, catalog product links and ad links do not count.
Meta's newsroom says the plans are available globally, while ReelDrop notes the help center calls Meta One a limited test. Check your own account first.
Is this cheaper than before?
Yes, per link. Meta already sold Reel links through Meta Verified for Business. OnlineMarketing.de reported in November 2025 that Business Plus at $44.99 a month allowed two linked Reels, Premium at $119.99 allowed four, and Max at $349.99 allowed six. Social Media Examiner's February 2026 episode gave the same counts.
That makes a Reel link about $22.50 on Meta Verified Plus and $12.50 on Meta One Advanced, counting only the Reel links. If you also use the four post links, the plan works out near $6.25 a link. ReelDrop reports that Meta Verified is still on sale and that Meta has not dated its migration plans.
Cheaper does not mean plentiful. A brand posting three Reels a week publishes about twelve a month. Four links cover a third of them at best.
Why can you not just put the link on the winner?
Several how-to guides suggest adding the link to whichever Reel takes off. The rules above rule that out. The link is set at publish, so you choose before you know.
That turns the link into a forecast. You need a reason to expect a Reel to reach enough people before it goes out. Two sources help:
- Your own history by concept. If a recurring format, such as a product demo or a before-and-after, reliably reaches a certain number of views, a new Reel in that format is a reasonable bet.
- A free test first. Trial Reels go to non-followers for up to 72 hours, and you can share them to followers afterwards. Use one to test a concept with a bio call to action, then publish a fresh linked cut if it holds up. Meta has not documented how links behave on trial Reels, so do not assume a trial can carry one.
What do the free routes lose?
Every free route adds a step. The question is where each one leaks.
Link in bio. The viewer has to open your profile and then tap. Adam Mosseri said in July 2025 that saying "link in bio" will not affect reach. The leak is the profile visit, not the link page. Linktree's own data for May 2025 to April 2026 shows Instagram visitors to a Linktree page clicked out at about 83% of page views. Linktree counts clicks per view, so visitors who tap two links count twice. A separate Linktree post, covering October 2025 to March 2026 across all sources, put the session-level rate at 65%. Either way, most people who reach the bio page keep going.
Story link sticker. Free for all accounts since October 2021, except new accounts and repeat rule-breakers. Stories are shown to people who already follow you, so a Story can push a Reel's link to your followers but not to the non-followers a Reel may reach.
Comment keyword to DM. The viewer comments a word and an automation sends the link. Meta's developer documentation limits this to one private reply per comment, within seven days of the comment. If the person does not follow you, the message goes to their Requests folder, not their inbox. On a Reel that travels mostly to people who do not know you, that is a large share of the audience.
Instagram's position on this route has moved. A late May 2024 @Creators video said Instagram would not recommend content asking people to comment a specific word. Days later it clarified that using comments and DMs for leads "is not considered to be engagement bait." It did not say how it tells the difference.
Boost. A boosted Reel carries a call-to-action button marked Sponsored, and the button goes when the campaign ends. That is paid media with its own budget, not a substitute for organic links.
Does a link cost reach?
Nobody knows yet. Meta has said nothing about how linked posts or Reels are distributed. During Instagram's caption-link test in March 2026, one blogger reported to PPC Land that a linked carousel was running slightly slower than usual after 14 hours. That is one post, not a result.
Social Media Examiner's Mari Smith argued in February that most businesses should skip paid links and put the money into ads, except creators with high Reel views and businesses with a tracked, high-converting landing page. Shopeaks gives similar advice for stores: pay only if organic Instagram already drives sales. Both views fit the evidence. Without tap data, the link only earns its price where views and destination value are already high.
How many views does a linked Reel need?
Use one formula per Reel:
Break-even views = price per link / (tap gap x value per visit)
The tap gap is the extra share of viewers who reach your site because the link is on the Reel, over what the bio route would deliver. Value per visit is your conversion rate times the margin or lead value per conversion.
Here is a worked example with hypothetical numbers. A store pays $12.50 per Reel link. Its site converts 2% of visits at $40 margin, so a visit is worth $0.80. If the link lifts site visits from 0.2% of viewers through the bio to 0.6% through the link, the gap is 0.4 points. Break-even is 12.50 / (0.004 x 0.80), about 3,900 views. A Reel expected to reach 20,000 views would add about 80 visits, worth about $64. One expected to reach 2,500 views would add about 10 visits, worth about $8, and should not get the link.
The gap is the number nobody publishes, so the answer swings widely:
| Tap gap | Value per visit $0.40 | $0.80 | $2.00 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.1 points | 31,250 views | 15,625 views | 6,250 views |
| 0.2 points | 15,625 views | 7,813 views | 3,125 views |
| 0.4 points | 7,813 views | 3,906 views | 1,563 views |
All inputs are hypothetical. Replace them with your own after the first month. Value per visit depends on where the visit lands, a point our piece on AI referral conversion rates works through in detail.
Which Reels should get a link?
| Reel | Expected views against break-even | Destination | Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proven concept, launch or deadline | Above | One specific page or offer | Paid link |
| Proven concept, evergreen | Above | Collection or guide | Paid link if a slot is left, otherwise comment to DM |
| New concept | Unknown | Any | Trial Reel or bio call to action. Relink a fresh cut later |
| Follower-only content, such as updates | Below | Any | Story link sticker |
| Entertainment with no next step | Any | None | No link. Do not spend a slot |
| Lead magnet, such as a guide or template | Any | DM delivery | Comment to DM, and accept that non-followers land in Requests |
Post links are a separate pool. If you also run carousels, the carousel or Reel decision helps decide which posts deserve those four.
How to run the first month
- Confirm access and allowance. Start the subscription flow and check what your account shows. Allowances and prices vary by account and country.
- Rank last quarter's Reels by concept. Note the median views per concept type. That is your forecast.
- Set the break-even. Use the formula with your own conversion rate and value. Start with a 0.2 point gap until you have data.
- Assign the four links before the month starts. Give them to scheduled Reels in proven concepts that clear the break-even and point to a specific page.
- Tag every route. Use a separate UTM for the Reel link, the bio, the Story sticker and the DM. Meta's Instagram API lists no link click metric for posts or Reels, only for Stories. Inro reports that in-app Reel insights show link taps, but that number will not reach your exports.
- Watch reach as well as clicks. Compare linked Reels with unlinked Reels of the same concept. If linked ones reach clearly fewer people, the link has a hidden cost.
- Decide after one month. Work out the real tap gap and value per visit from your analytics. If linked Reels fall short of break-even, cancel and use the free routes.
The link is one part of whether a Reel converts. If viewers leave before your call to action, no route helps, which is where the 3-second hook comes in.
The short version
Meta One makes a Reel link cheaper than it was. It does not make it plentiful, and it does not let you add the link later. Spend the four links on proven concepts with a specific destination and enough expected views to clear break-even. Send the rest through your bio, Stories and DMs, tag every route, and judge the plan on your own numbers after a month. Questions
What does Meta One include for links on Instagram?
Meta launched Meta One on 15 September 2026. Its Advanced plan, from $49.99 a month, adds links in organic posts and Reels. Social Media Today and later guides report up to four post links and four Reel links a month, eight of each on Expert and twelve on Max. Prices vary by region.
Can I add a link to a Reel after it takes off?
Not according to the rules guides have read from Meta's help pages. The link is added with an Add link option when you publish, it cannot be edited afterwards, and unused links do not roll over. You have to choose the Reel before you know how it will perform.
Does saying "link in bio" hurt reach?
Adam Mosseri said in July 2025 that it does not affect reach either way. Some creators report lower reach in their own informal tests, but no one has published a controlled result.
Is a comment keyword that triggers a DM treated as engagement bait?
Instagram said in June 2024 that using comments and DMs to generate leads is not engagement bait. Bait is asking for engagement only to inflate reach. Instagram did not say how its systems tell the two apart.
